Birtle Lions' Club

The Birtle Lions’ Club was formed in 1954. The members meet the third Tuesday of every month at the Birtle Drop Inn Centre.

In 1983, the Birtle Lions initiated the Lions’ Journey for Sight snowmobile fundraising event, which has grown to become a provincial fundraising program that has contributed over 1 million dollars to the Lions’ Eye Bank since inception. The Birtle Lions’ fundraising activities help support national organizations such as the CNIB and Diabetes Association, and local groups that are dedicated to beautifying and protecting our town. The Lions also assist with the medical expenses of local people who are dealing with the challenges of illness.

In 2006, Charter members Lion Harold Barker, Lion Bruce Thorton and Lion Ernie Walley were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for outstanding service to the Lions Club since 1954.
