Public Works Manager

Prairie View Municipality

 

The Council of Prairie View Municipality is recruiting for a Public Works Manager.  

This position, reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, will be responsible for the public works staff of approximately 15 employees.  This includes managing the public works operations for the municipality, including the installation, maintenance and repair or upgrade of all municipal infrastructure, including roadways, sidewalks, water and sewer lines, water treatment, wastewater facilities, signage and waste disposal. The successful incumbent will ensure all infrastructure is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition to meet the needs of the communities.

The ideal candidate will be a proven, collaborative and engaging leader who will possess the following qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education combined with Management experience at a senior level
  • Demonstrated leadership skills acquired through experience managing staff or leading work teams; preferably unionized employees under a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Excellent public relation skills, organizational and management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget preparation and control
  • Proven knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety Act, Municipal Act and other applicable legislation
  • Engineering discipline is considered an asset but not required
  • Proficiency in general office equipment and multiple computer software applications, including Microsoft Office and GIS programming.

Prairie View Municipality is situated in the heart of South Western Manitoba with the corporate office in Birtle, MB that is situated along the scenic Birdtail Valley; and a satellite office in Miniota, MB that is near the beautiful Assiniboine River. The Municipality is home to a number of smaller communities, offering a mix of quiet urban and country lifestyles to its population of approximately 2,100.

PUBLIC WORKS OPERATOR

FULL-TIME PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

We are currently inviting applications for the position of Public Works Operator. The successful applicant will be responsible for maintenance of municipal equipment, roads as well as ensuring the completion of all municipal projects are done in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to operate large and small equipment and be mechanically inclined. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high level of initiative and enthusiasm in their approach toward fulfilling responsibilities in previous roles.

Summer Employees - Green Team

 Prairie View Municipality is accepting applications for summer employees under the Hometown Green Team Program for the following positions:

  • FourPublic Works Labourers - two in each of the Birtle and Miniota regions.  Applicants are required to supply CSA approved steel toe boots.
  • Recreation Assistant to work with the Recreation Coordinator to facilitate community events, day camp activities, youth summer programs and sports clinics, special interest workshops and various recreation oriented duties.  The assistant will work in both the communities of Birtle and Miniota.

Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 29 and possess a full driver’s license.  These positions will be up to 40 hours per week for the potential period of May 1st to August 31st, 2017.

Seasonal Recreation Operator/Labourer

FULL-TIME SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

We are currently inviting applications for the position of Seasonal Recreation Operator/LabourerThe Successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of Birtle Riverside Park.

Preference will be given to candidates who operate small equipment, have basic carpenter skills and have good time management skills as well as people skills. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high level of initiative and enthusiasm in their approach toward fulfilling responsibilities in previous roles.

Birtle Park & Pool Coordinator 

Prairie View Municipality is currently accepting applications for one full time and one part time Birtle Park & Pool Coordinator. The Park & Pool Coordinator’s will work from the Tourist Information Booth in Birtle, and duties will include; daily supervision and reporting of the Birtle Pool Personnel, taking campground bookings, and other duties as assigned.

Full Time position will be up to 40 hours per week for the potential period of May 1 to August 31, 2017.
