MUNICIPAL EMERGENCY COORDINATOR



Prairie View Municipality is seeking proposals for the position of Municipal Emergency Coordinator to provide emergency management services.


The successful applicant will require an operational background and possess strong leadership skills and knowledge of the local communities within the Municipality. Previous experience working in an emergency will be considered an asset, as well as sound knowledge of Microsoft Office. The Municipal Emergency Coordinator will be responsible for:


  • Review Prairie View Municipal Emergency Plan and recommend updates at least annually to Council for approval;

  • Coordinate monthly meetings of the Prairie View Municipal Emergency Response Team in Birtle and Miniota;

  • Act as a liaison between regional EMO and the local authority;

  • Implement the Emergency Plan in part or whole, as required during emergency;

  • Activate and provide leadership to the Emergency Operations Centre during emergency situations:

  • Collaborate on the preparation of media releases during an emergency;

  • Review and update all contact and resource lists;

  • Coordinate on going training and education for Prairie View Municipal Emergency Response team members

  • Prepare and circulate emergency preparedness articles to the general public;

  • Coordinate annual analysis of hazards posing a significant threat to the Municipality;

  • Coordinate table top and full scale exercises as required every three years involving as many members of the Emergency Response Team as possible.


The position will require an average of 20 to 30 hours per month on a flexible schedule. During emergencies the Emergency Coordinator must be available fulltime with possible overtime, for as long as required.  A valid driver’s license is required.


The Emergency Coordinator will hold a contract position with the Municipality and report to the Chief Administrative Officer on a regular basis.
