PUBLIC WORKS OPERATOR/LABOURER
FULL-TIME POSITION

We are currently inviting applications for the position of Public Works Operator/Labourer for a full-time position based in the Birtle Region. 

The public works operator/labourer will be responsible to perform the day-to-day general operations of the public works department which includes roads and equipment operations and maintenance, operating light and heavy equipment and following all safety procedures and municipal policies/procedures.  

Position Requirements:   
  • Valid class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement, must be obtained prior to end of probationary period. 
  • Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience as a heavy equipment operator in a municipal or comparable setting including but not limited to backhoes, loaders, and graders is an asset. 
  • Ability to work independently and with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instruction and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to perform all work activities of this physically active position, including heavy lifting.
  • Safety oriented.
  • Be flexible and available for overtime, weekends and call ins if necessary.

UTILITY OPERATOR 
FULL-TIME PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Prairie View Municipality is now accepting applications for the full-time position of Utility Operator. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the water treatment, distribution, wastewater and storm water collection systems and facilities. 

The successful applicant must posses the following:

  • Possess and maintain a class 5 driver’s license.
  • Class 2 certification through MWWA program in Water Treatment, Class 1 in Water Distribution, and Wastewater Collection and Treatment.  Consideration may be given to applicants with partial or no certification who are willing to complete the necessary provincial certifications.  The municipality may cover the cost of training. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively to establish and maintain an all-encompassing working relationship with the staff, public and contractors in a courteous manner.
  • Willingness to handle call-outs as required.
  • The ability to effectively manage operations and assets in a cost effective manner.  
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm in their approach toward fulfilling responsibilities.

Employment Opportunities
Summer Employees

Prairie View Municipality is accepting applications for summer employees under the Hometown Green Team Program for the following positions:

Public Works Labourer to work in either the Miniota or Birtle area.  Applicants are required to supply CSA approved steel toe boots.
  • Eligible applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 29 and possess a full driver’s license.  
  • Duties to include ground maintenance, cutting grass, trimming, recycling, painting as well as other duties as assigned through the summer.
  • This position will be up to 40 hours per week for the potential period of May to August 31st, 2022 with a wage range of $15.10 – $16.10/hr.
