The beautiful Prairie View Municipality provides endless opportunities for everyone. Whether you are sports enthusiast, a lover of all things outdoors or enjoy socializing with friends and family, Prairie View has it all. With beautiful golf courses, tennis courts, skating and curling rinks, cross country ski trails, a disc golf course and beaches to swim at, there are plenty of recreational opportunities. Hiking trails, parks and gardens, campgrounds, fishing spots and quad and ski doo trails will appease the outdoor fanatics. While social outings such as welcome nights, community fundraisers, parades, bonspiels, fairs, dances and community suppers allow locals and visitors the chance to get together, and provide fun for people of all ages!
Known nation-wide for its participation in
Communities in Bloom, Birtle has been awarded the 1999 Provincial and 2000
National Communities in Bloom honour, with special recognition for its
tidiness, environmental awareness and Municipal Park. In 2001 Birtle captured
the Canadian Classic Championship and were recognized for community
involvement. In 2002 Birtle once again maintained its 5-bloom status in the
Canadian Classic Challenge with special mention for its newly developed
Birtle Community Spirit, "Passing It On”, is one of its greatest attributes. This was demonstrated to all of Canada when Birtle was named one of the top ten finalists in the nationally televised 2006 Canadian Hockeyville Competition.
Yearly social events such as the Miniota Celebrity Golf Tournament and the Shirtsleeve Classic Summer Curling Bonspiel have put Miniota on the map, bringing in people from all around the world to this small community.
The second weekend of June brings golfers in from far and wide for the Celebrity Golf Tournament- a fundraising event started in 2006 to raise funds for the Miniota Golf Course and Westman Dreams for Kids. The weekend is comprised of an 18-Hole golf tournament, supper, live auction and social.
The third weekend of every July the town is booming, as Miniota hosts its annual "Shirtsleeve Classic Bonspiel”. The weekend is filled with a 32-team curling bonspiel, slo-pitch tournament, golf tournament, fireman’s rodeo, community suppers and socials, activities for kids, car rally and much more. It is a tradition unique to Miniota and is a great experience for people of all ages.
