Birtle Services for Seniors

To ensure support services are available and accessible to seniors, which will assist them in maintaining their community independent living status and "Age in Place” 

Goals:

  • To increase quality of life for those who live independently

  • To compliment services provided by formal health care system

  • Help fill the gaps in service that families cannot fully meet and are not adequately provided for by the Public Health Sector

  • To help delay entry into Personal Care Homes

  • To increase the numbers of seniors remaining in their "home community”

  • To increase the use of existing services
       

Structure:

Service for Seniors Board

A non-profit group of community volunteers who works to ensure the above goals are met within the community.  Funding received from Manitoba Health to support the salary of the Resource Coordinator. All program costs are raised through municipal and local grants, donations and fundraising.

Community Resource Coordinator

An employee of the Service for Seniors Board.  Works in the community to coordinate support services that are available and accessible to seniors and persons with disabilities.  Assists the Board in identifying program objectives

Surveys the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities within the community and determines what resources are required to meet those needs

Seniors Program Specialist

A Prairie Mountain Health Authority employee who provides consultation to the Community Board in all phases of the program operation.
