Shortly after entering the Birtle Riverside Park & Campground, you'll find plenty of areas where you and the kids can cast a line right from the shore!
In the Miniota area, there are several accessible fishing spots along the Assiniboine River.
The easiest access is at the bridge along Highway 83. Drive north towards Miniota, turn west at the hydro station and drive about a mile towards the cemetery. When the road bends south into the valley, you'll reach a bridge at the bottom of the hill, and there will be space where you can fish along the riverbanks.

For another spot, turn east just before the bridge heading north towards Miniota, and follow the road for approximately 4-5 miles. The road will curve as you pass a few houses, and you'll cross a small creek. Continue past a farm with a large red barn (look for a sign with Arrowdale Farms). Your next right will take you to a bridge that you can fish off!
Finally, at Hooper's Lake, you can fish by boat, or take it easy on the banks! There is a boat launching area just north of the main entrance to the campground; click here for directions.
