Birtle Fire Department

Birtle is a proactive community.  Every effort is made to ensure that the high standards of safety in our community is maintained. 

A fully trained and equipped volunteer fire-fighting force offers service to the Town and the RM of Birtle. The Fire Department belongs to the West Central Mutual Aid District. 

A state-of-the-art fire hall, complete with four bays and fully modern equipment services our community and area efficiently. The Fire Hall also acts as the Emergency Operations Centre if any emergency or disaster occurs.

Their equipment includes:

  • 2007 Freightliner Pumper – 840 gal.p/minute
  • 1990 GMC 7000 Pumper - 840 gal./minute. 1050 gal.carrying capacity
  • Mini Pumper – 1988 GMC 4x4 - 200 gal. p/minute - Quick Response Unit
  • Rescue Unit – 1986 Ford - Acts as the Command Centre
  • Jaws of Life
  • Breathing Apparatus
  • First Aid Water Craft Rescue complete with 2 sets of cold water survival gear
  • E911 – 20 Members fully equipped with pagers.

Ground Search and Rescue

We are part of the Provincial Ground Search and Rescue team. We have members that are trained and ready to respond within the Province when called upon to assist with a search. 

RCMP

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment is situated 25 minutes east of birtle and offers full police service to the Birtle area. The community, with the cooperation of the RCMP also run a Neighborhood and Rural Crime Watch program.  

Ambulance

Local volunteer ambulance service has personnel trained to EMT & First Responder levels. Air ambulance is available from nearby airports at Shoal Lake (35 km) and Russell (50 km) from Birtle.
